Phil Ivey on Hellmuth's claims

July 21, 2010 | by Paul Poker | posted in gossip

phil iveyLast week, Phil Hellmuth claimed that Phil Ivey will not pass him in WSOP bracelets the next five years. His exact words were: “Ivey won’t pass me in five years. That’s impossible. I shouldn’t say its impossible, [laughs], I don’t think it’ll happen. I think maybe in five years I’ll be at 14 or 15, and maybe he’s at 11 or 12. I don’t know. I think that he won’t pass me in five years.”

Of course, Ivey was asked for a response and for a change the greatest poker player in the world responded. The question was asked by Jesse May for ‘The Poker Show’ -a poker talkshow sponsored by Party Poker.

Sure thing, Phil Ivey didn’t totally agree with his namesake: “Impossible? I don’t really like the word impossible. I think it’s very possible. It’s very likely. Unless he wins a couple in the next five years, I guess he plans on doing that, then I’m probably a small underdog to tie him….I’m probably five-to-one, six-to-one dog or so.”

In the meantime, Ivey made a final table of a World Poker Tour Event. The WPT Bellagio started when the Main Event of the World Series of Poker was still underway. Ivey eventually finished third, banking a nice $363,650.
