The Top 5 Poker Scenes in Movies
The game of poker has always been a grateful subject in movies. We applaud that of course, but we have to say most scenes are pretty rubbish from a poker player perspective. Quads over Quads, Royal Flushes over Straight Flushes…the more unrealistic, the better is what the makers seem to think.
Holding that into account, there are some great poker scenes in the history of movies. We’ve selected our Top 5. Feel free to comment and tell us we’re wrong:
5. The Best Slowroll – Maverick
Mel Gibson shows some unethical behavior with the slowroll. Can someone calculate the chance this will happen?
4. ‘Sometimes nothin’ can be a real cool hand’ – Cool Hand Luke
The late Paul Newman in the best scene of the movie Cool Hand Luke. Kick a Buck!
3. James Bond coolers the table – Casino Royale
Although the chance of this happening is even less than zero, the whole athmosphere of this scene is just great. The tension builds, as player after player show down some top hands. The scene has everything a James Bond scene should have. A cool Bond, an outstanding villain in LeChiffre (played by Mads Mikkelsen) and hot chicks in Eva Green as Vesper Lynd and the blonde chick at 3:29.
2. Don’t cheat a cheater – The Sting
In this fantastic movie made in 1973, we again see Paul Newman. On a train ride from New York to Chicago in the 1930′s, the villain tries to cheat Henry Gondorff (played by Paul Newman) in a game of poker by fixing the deck. The movie is rated with an 8.4 on IMDB.
1. The worst tell ever – Rounders
Which movie other than Rounders could take the first spot on our list? The movie that excellerated the poker boom is the favorite movie of all poker players and there is probably no one that reads this article that hasn’t seen Rounders. The most famous scene is of course the one where Teddy KGB gives off a horrible tell with his box of Oreo cookies.
